Inndian Navy finally Gets Access to strategic Agalega island in Mauritius

Two outer islands of Mauritius located in the Indian Ocean

This base on Agalega will cement India's presence in the south-west Indian Ocean and facilitate its power projection aspirations in this region.

The small, remote Mauritian island of North Agalega, located in the south-western Indian Ocean, 1,122 kilometres north of Mauritius, is currently a hive of construction activity.

North Agalega Island is some 12 kilometres long and I .5 kilometres wide, with a total population of less than 300 people.

Until recently, it was virtually cut off from the world, with a rudimentary jetty and a small airfield barely fit for light aircraft.

Officially the Republic of Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometres ( l ,200 mi) off the southeast coast of the African continent

12.7 lakhsThe capital and largest city, Port Louis, is located on Mauritius, where most of the population is concentrated.

India sought access to the islands in 2015 to develop as an ir and naval suging point for surveillance of the south-west

Indan Ocean,

Satellite imagery shows major airfield and port developments are well underway. reportedly worth some US$87 million.

The most recent images from Google Earth to the same location as seen in

2014 shows a new 3000-metre runway — capable of hosting the Indian Navy's new Boetng P-81 maritime patrol aircraft — and considerable apron overshadows the existing airfield in the middle Of the island.

India's Ministry of External Affairs stated the agreement with Mauritius inked in 2015 would "go a long way in ameliorating the conditions of the inhabitants of this remote island" - while also enabling Mauritian Defence Force operations. India had also hoped for a similar arrangement in the Seychelles.

This facility in Mauritius will provide an important staging point for India's new

Boeing P-8 Poseidon fleet, which recently conducted its first joint patrol with France from nearby Réunion.

This development is a manifestation of Modi's 2016 vision for the

Indian Ocean, articulated as Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR). Under SAGAR, New Delhi aims to work together with Indian Ocean regional governments to "engineer virtuous cycles of cooperation".

Mystery brain disease found in Canada

WHAT HAS HAPPENED? An unknown brain disease has caused panic in the New Brunswick province of Canada after a string of cases were reported that involved memory loss, hallucinations and muscle atrophy. People living in the province became cognizant of the disease after a memo from the province's public health agency leaked last week, Which asked doctors to look for symptoms relate to Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease (CJD). CJD is a rare brain disease which is caused due to abnormally folded proteins called prions. Creutzfeldt-Jakob (KROITS-felt YAH-kobe) disease (CJD) is a degenerative brain disorder that leads to dementia and, ultimately, death. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease symptoms can be similar to those of other dementia-like brain disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease. But Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease usually progresses much more rapidly. Transmitted by contact with infected tissue, such as during a transplant or from eating contaminated meat. CAUSES NOT KNOWN FOR CURRENT DISE...

ANDHRA PRADESH STRAIN 15 TIMES MORE VIRULENT

Experts are saying that a new Andhra Pradesh variant of the SARS-COV-2 virus is at least 15 times more virulent than the earlier ones. May be even stronger than the Indian variants of B. 1.617 and B. 1.618 . Speculation is still on regarding whether it is a new strain or the old N440K. The N440K variant was first discovered by Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB).However, data is still insufficient to confirm anythin. The impact of AP Strain Authorities say that the variant at present which is in circulation in Visakhapatnam is different from what we have seen during the first wave last year. Samples have been sent to CCMB for analysis, in order to find out which strain is in circulation right now.It has been observed that the new variant has shorter incubation period and the progress of the disease is much rapid. In the earlier cases, a patient infected with the virus would take at least a week to reach the hypoxia or dyspnea stage. But in the present context,...

ISRO DISCOVERS RED HIMALAYAN GLACIAL LAKE IN LADAKH ##

Scientists from the ISRO have reported the existence of a new glacial lake in the Northeast Himalayas. On the basis of satellite images taken over the past 20 years, it is said to have reddish brown waters. Location: 5060 meters above sea level, near the Zanskar valley, Ladakh It is 11 kilometers from the nearest village, and covers an area of approximately 0.2 square kilometers. The lake is being fed by a glacier, and the researchers suggest that it has either been formed or expanded due to glacial melt caused by climate change. Red color Due to the local geology and iron-rich minerals of the region, like hematite and goethite, that interact with snow and glacial meltwaters and subsequently deposits red suspension in the lake. The lake's unique geochemistry and the molecules reflect the light at longer wavelengths, making the Himalayan glacial lake appear red.   Melting Glaciers and Climate Change Glaciers are melting and lakes are swelling rapidly Example: Lake in Sik...
